see joy in the little things

Being the proud owner of an adopted 1 year old chocolate lab has changed my life. I can't say it's changed it in an unexpected way but like many good things -- it's probably exceeded my expectations. I anticipated that having a dog would bring me so much additional joy but it's more than that. I'm now seeing the world through his eyes and realizing an even greater appreciation for the little things.
Like when KoKo spots a squirrel and is so excited thinking he can catch it, or when he first comes out of his crate he's just filled with such excitement he squeals and just wants to be loved and cuddle on his big pillow, or when i go to feed him and his tail wags so much his whole body wiggles or when he gets to meet a new dog on the street -- it just lights him up so much and he walks off with such a proud prance in his step.
When we allow ourselves to see the joy in little things -- to actually notice and pay attention to what lights us up -- it can be life changing. We all find joy in different things -- but it's allowing yourself the opportunity to see it for what it is and then step back and determine if you're letting enough joy into your life. Like many things, it can take one simple shift to change a whole perspective. And just imagine what it must feel like to wake up every day like KoKo does -- ready for whatever the day holds, appreciating each moment and feeling real, true happiness all along the way.
