I was just helping out some colleagues by sharing my "new business start up cheat sheet" with a list of tips and resources for how to get your new business set up and launched. It was fun to see how easily it all came to me as it's only been about 16 months since I was struggling to figure it all out. And it got me to thinking -- what's been my single greatest asset for my business? And while there have been SO many people, tips, advice that I've collected along the way I think if I look back one clearly does rise to the top, my designer.
** Every business owner needs their own design partner **
From day one you immediately have design needs -- your logo, your templates, your sales presentation, your business card, etc etc. And then as you grow so does your list of needs. I seriously don't know where I'd be without the first person who help me to build out my sales presentation (Nadia) and my partner who's helped me with every single thing since: Mark! I've known Mark for over 8 years now - we started as colleagues working on a bunch of stuff for The Official Fuel of Nascar and then when life took us in different directions we remained good friends. He's been a mentor, a colleague, a friend, a big brother and now he feels like my business partner. Mark has done everything from my logo, my business cards, my CORE branding process, my entire website design, any re-sizing I need, my core beliefs images (hand drawn!) and he's currently helping me with my latest design inspiration.
Not only is he such a pleasure to work with but he's always up for whatever I throw at him. And I can count on his strategic insights to also challenge me if the idea isn't so good or he has one better. So as I sit here thinking about how to design my next "product idea" that will fall under ostrich coaching + consulting he's once again instrumental in helping me bring that to life.
So here's to Designer Appreciation Day (that i just declared as May 2nd). Who do you appreciate and have you told them lately?
