As if I haven't been doing enough travel lately (i swear since maui i haven't been home in LA for more than 10 days at a time) I decided to take a road trip to Montana for the 4th of July! And only my dear friend Sarah could convince me to drive 19 hours to only spend a few days in the Great State of Montana...but really, how could I refuse?! After all, Sarah packed herself up and I couldn't have her pull away saying goodbye to LA by herself as she pursues a job opportunity in Chicago. So I wanted to join her for the first leg of her drive and head out to Montana to see where she went to college and meet her friends and family who live there. So off we went!
Friday AM we left LA, along with another friend of Sarah's, Traci. And there wasn't a square inch to spare in sarah's jeep. We drove 12 hours to Salt Lake City, UT (where I had spent a week before for work so i was prepared :) We had some dinner and drinks and girl time and then a good night sleep at a super cute hotel: Hotel Monaco before we woke up to get back in the car. We drove another 7 hours or so through Utah, Idaho and finally Montana. It was all so beautiful, I hope the pics do it some justice. We finally arrived at Sarah's parents house in a small town called Big Timber--not even a traffic light down the "main street." They greeted us with open arms, along with their adoreable 3 year old yellow lab, Bella (I was in HEAVEN). We had some drinks and caught up and then had a nice dinner together. Sarah showed me what a night out in Big Timer is like, that was interesting. 3 beers for less than $8, can't beat that!
From there we went into Bozeman, MT where Montana State Univ is--that's where Sarah went to school and she's got lots of friends there. 4th of july is a big weekend (GO AMERICA :) so there was lots going on. We set off to find me my first pair of cowboy boots so I'd be set up for my first RODEO. That was definitely a good time, I only wish I felt better--my allergies were worse than i EVER recall...apparently it was peak season that weekend and everyone said the hay fever was just horrible. I can vouch for that, i was dying so as a result, not feeling well and a snotty, sniffly mess. But it was still fun. And a great fireworks show post Rodeo. Then we hit some bars and bbqs and met up w/ more friends. I got to see the MSU campus, meet one of Sarah's old professors (what a trip) and even see one of the local ad agencies where her friend works. We had lots of gal time to analyze and over analyze our lives and lots of time to meet up w/ others and take in the view. The views are what I loved most--really, really spectacular.
So all in all a great trip. I came West wanting to see more of the country and on this trip I feel I checked off some great scenic views. I only wish I could've continued on w/ Sarah to Chi-town...she's got another long leg ahead of her and it sure was sad saying bye when she dropped me at the airport. But i'm so proud of her, she reminds me of me when I was venturing out to LA on my own journey. It's gonna be great for her. Love you sardrinks xoxo, thanks for an amazing trip!
