Habitat for Humanity
When did it become October?! Wow, I can't believe it. But with this being my 3rd October in LA, I'm realizing it's among the best months here weather wise. There's finally no marine layer in the morning so down by the beach it's blue skies even first thing in the morning. And today, Oc 2, it was 75 and bright blue skies and sunny. Perfect beach day and that's just what I did. I woke up and took a long stroll on the beach and then after some morning football viewing, I met a friend for a couple hours. It's definitely something I'm not used to--putting a bikini on in October, but you're not hearing any complaints from this gal :)
To close out September and to kick off the jewish new year, I did some volunteering. My company signed us up to do Habitat for Humanity and it was such a great experience. Most of the group was 3 feet into a ditch digging 36" deep for pipping but I had raised my hand pretty quickly when asked who wanted to paint. So before lunch me and a few others painted probably 50 baseboards and after lunch we learned how to mix stucco and did about a 1/4 of the long property divide wall in a dark brown stucco. It was hard work, especially with the sun blazing down on us. It definitely gave me a genuine appreciation for how my father and brothers have done this all their life, wow.
It was just such a nice day--we even got to meet the woman's who's house we worked on. She has run a foster home her whole life and decided, along w/ her own daughter, to adopt 3 children to raise and care for. So this home is for all of them, so special. For those of you who don't know (as I didn't realize this), you must apply and be approved to get a Habitat for Humanity home and if your credit is good and you are chosen, you get a 30 year mortgage with no interest, paid to Habitat for Humanity. Pretty awesome. So my final thought for you is to at least check it out. It's a great thing to do as a family, a friend group or w/ your co-workers. 100% of the homes (minus the plumbing and electrical) are built by volunteers, pretty amazing. Enjoy the pictures :)
