Yesterday was just a perfect day. Shawn and I spent the day in Malibu. First we hit the Pacific Coast Highway and went to Will Roger's State Park for a gorgeous hike. We saw snow capped mountains, downtown LA, the ocean and even Catalina Island in the distance. It was awesome. Then we went a bit further up the PCH to Point Dume...a beach hike that was equally incredible. Being up high and overlooking the Pacific, just breathtaking. By then we were quite hungry so we went just a few more miles up the coast to Neptune's Net, a seafood hut where we got some fried seafood and fish tacos and two cold ones, very cali :)
As we made our way back down the PCH we decided to venture into the hills of Malibu along the windy roads and huge homes to find the Malibu Family Wines vineyard. We turned into the address I had written down only to find 10 minutes later we were among a 1000+ acres of land that included vineyards, ponds, animals and a gorgeous home on top of the peak. We clearly had turned into the "ranch" vs the public vineyard area. HA! SO we followed the paved path until my nav system finally showed an actual road only to find a locked gate with a keypad. We thought we were stuck but finally got the keypad to work and go out and on our way. A short bit further down the road we saw the entrance into the vineyard and man was it incredible. Just a big open back yard with Adirondack chairs and sun beaming in between the trees. We bought our flights of wine tastings and chilled out among the beautiful scene. It was the perfect cap to a great afternoon.
To top the day off we went to watch the sunset at the special overlook where I go to think of my Mom. We took lots of pictures as it was gorgeous. And then I took Shawn to the top of a very chic hotel near my house for a drink. We rode up in a glass elevator, just after sunset--the surrounding looked amazing with the pink sky. He loved it. And from here we hopped in the car and went up to West Hollywood for a hip steak dinner at STK (same place I brought my mom and my dad when they each came to visit). And thanks to Jake/Steph who gave me a gift card for Hanukkah we could actually afford it :) Incredible meal and Shawn absolutely LOVED his bone-in rib eye. We even got dessert. And to top of that evening, we hit Sunset Strip and Mondrian Hotel's Sky Bar. Very hip scene where we had drinks poolside and watched LA in action. After that we were ready to call it a day.
We both said again today, it really was perfect. Time to shower for our big Saturday night out. More soon!
I love the pictures. I am so coming next.. but i want to work out on the beach and plant my ass on the beach so i am coming when it is hot.
