WOW, Maui is beautiful. I'm SO enjoying it. I do have to admit, I live in an incredible beautiful place filled with sun and palm trees so in some ways my arrival here wasn't as breathtaking as I may have thought just b/c it wasn't SO different. People say Maui is very commercialized and some say not that different from LA. But I think when we head to Hana on Monday and see the more remote and tropical side of the island it will feel like Hawaii...can't wait. In any regard, it's amazing and we've all decided vacations are the best thing on earth.
Our first day we settled in and pick some things up for our condo and then found a resort that could take 3 gals desperate for an oceanside massage. It was like a scene out of the Bachelor, we arrive (after putting down our first tropical drink that we had poolside at this resort) to find our own tiki hut prepped with 3 beds and 3 women read to rock our worlds. It was the most glorious 50 minutes ever listening the waves crashing with a warm tropical breeze moving across my face. What a way to kick off vacation--highly recommend it (Makena Beach & Golf Resort and it was too $$). Then we hit "Big Beach" for some rays but soon after got sand blasted b/c it was very windy so we decided to hit another resort and grab some lunch. From there we returned back to our condo for happy hour by our pool and then a nice dinner out. Lahaina Grill (in Lahaina where we are staying)--best seared Ahi I've ever had, can't stop thinking about it.
Yesterday we had a full day--we had signed up for a Trilogy tour over to the island of Lanai. We took about a 1.5 hour boat ride where the (hot) staff weighted on us with coffee, cinnabuns, and fresh juice and fruit. Upon arrival we went to Hulopoe Beach which is owned by one guy and this tour company is the only one allowed to bring people here. THe only other thing in sight was an exclusive Four Seasons Resort. Beautiful beach. We snorkeled there and took in some rays before they served us a BBQ early dinner and we sailed back on the boat where they pampered us again with ice cream and pineapple ginger ale. Awesome, awesome day. Except for the part where the ocean kicked my ass...the snorkeling was great but this beach had a rip current that was a bit intense and we had to move past that before we could snorkel. I got out ok with the help of one of the hot guys (and my floating device around my waste!) but coming back in was a different story. They guide you in based on how the waves are coming and we all headed back in, the girls just ahead of me, so they say ok hustle in to beat this wave and for me he looks behind me and says, "you're gonna wanna get down"...and before i know it i'm engulfed by the wave crashing on my back and i'm face down with this guy pulling me up so the current doesn't suck me back into the ocean! Not the leisurely way of wrapping up my snorkel experience...on top of already hating the ocean...that concluded my time in the water for the day :)
Today we're gonna check out the west side of the island and some of the resorts...no activities planned. Then tomorrow a helicopter ride followed by a hike. This is really a fantastic trip and i'm so glad to be here. Feeling good.
