a wine weekend

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE California?! Just two hours north are the most awesome vineyards in Santa Barbara and Santa Ynez. So off I went Saturday AM with my friend Sarah. Before we knew it we were sipping on a fabulous flight of wine at a few different vineyards just north of LA. And of course the weather was gorgeous!!

Sarah's aunt and uncle live in Santa Ynez and look after sarah's great aunt and uncle who are in their 90s and still married and sharp as a tack. It was so nice to be able to make their day with a visit from two young ladies just living their lives. And since I never had both grandparents grow old together like that, it was sort of special for me.

We enjoyed dinner at the local stomp, the Red Barn with Sarah's aunt and uncle. And then off to the rodeo bar--Mavericks. It's every bit of awesome as it sounds--cowboy boots and hats everywhere. Good times.

Sunday we had coffee with the elders and then off to lunch to get a good base before we hit some more vineyards on our way outta town. We left Santa Ynez and then stopped in Santa Barbara which is such an awesome little town. We hit a cool winery there, Oreana, and enjoyed our glasses outside with someone playing acoustic dave matthews and even got ourselves in a little cornhole tournament with some boys we befriended. I of course was on the winning team :)

And finally, after we turned down our new friend's invite to a bbq for the Laker's game, while we were cruising home, Sarah and I discovered in more conversation our mutual love for Chili's. So thanks to my iPhone we googled and mapped it and found one 2 miles away! We caught the Lakers game over some good ol bottomless chips and diet coke. Reminded me of good times with my Mom and was the perfect cap off to an incredible weekend. Thanks, Sarah--it was just what I needed!!!
