I'm two days into being 39 and never felt better (well currently I have a bit of sweat tea vodka aftermath headache but that too shall pass :) I'm realizing as I look ahead I'm excited about two things - closing down my 30s with one hell of a year and I'm also excited for 40 (vs dreading it like some might).
Let's face it - the 30s were VERY hard for me. I went through major major life events and transitions - leaving an incredible job as a VP, all my best friends and family and selling a fabulous 2br condo in Phila to start over across the country in LA, having my mom get diagnosed with cancer and die 34 days later - four months after I moved, years of painstakingly horrible grief, a career change, a shit ton of bad dates with some minor heart breaks along the way, back to school for a coaching certification (and a lot of coaching and therapy along the way to prepare), launching a business, surviving that business through the first 3 extremely hard years, becoming a mom/adopting my first four legged bestest friend in the whole wide world - mr koko, relocating myself/life again to Austin TX, building a whole new life making friends, building my business and community and dating...and now holding out for the kind of love that you just can't walk away from.
Yeah - I'd say a lot went on in my 30s.
And it's led me to exactly where I am right now. Which is focusing on making my 39th year the best yet of my 30s and carrying me into my 40s ready for a f-ing fantastic decade. Last year on my 38th I declared I would not turn 39 living in Los Angeles - and per usual when I set a goal I achieve it so here I am living in Austin. So for my 39th year - I want to look back in one year's time and say I had the time of my life in Austin. What will that mean? It will mean I showed up open, adventurous, authentic, confident, passionate, engaging, and positive to each and every possibility that comes my way. It means I'll say yes way more than no and I'll ensure that along the way I feel an abundance of peace and joy in my world. It also means I'll dance as if no one is watching, kiss as if it might be the last time, and live like there's no tomorrow.
I'd also like to say that I'll have completed a very solid draft of the book I want to publish. Actually getting the book off the ground may be a goal for my 40th year - we'll see!
So here's to you 39 - I have a feeling you're gonna be the best year yet of my 30s and we're gonna have some fun together.
Cheers!
