Well yesterday came and went and the best way to describe it is bittersweet. I should've been calling my mom on her 66th birthday to say happy birthday and sending her yellow roses as I always do instead of just buying them for my own viewing pleasure. But those days are past. Instead I got up early and walked out to the outlook where I sit and think of my Mom and left a yellow rose for her and wished her a happy birthday. And what made the day extra special is I got to take my Dad to that special place that afternoon and show him where I sit and think about my Mom as well as showing him the rest of my neighborhood!
I decided I would park the car and go into the airport to surprise dad, turns out when I got there he was already at baggage claim gathering his stuff. I spotted him from across the room and ran right up to him SO SO SO excited to see him. We hoped into my car, which Dad actually likes quite much. We agreed it will do just fine taking us up the Pacific Coast Highway for our roadtrip. I showed him around as we drove back and we got settled in at my apartment, catching up the whole time. Then we went for nice lunch on the Promenade--same place I took my Mom--and then took a nice long walk along the beach and I showed him a bunch of my favorite spots. We capped the day off at a great seafood place where Dad enjoyed some oysters and yummy clam chowder.
Now we're up early, catching up on True Blood with coffee and getting ready to hit the road for our big road trip. First stop, Solvang, just outside of Santa Barbara. It's gonna be a great week...stay tuned!
So glad to know that you are enjoying a wonderful visit with your dad at a very bittersweet time. A great time to be together: father and daughter. Love the pictures of you both! We loved Santa Barbara. Fess Parker(played Daniel Boone & Davey Crockett but passed away this year) took us to his vineyard and out to lunch. We were with a dear friend who worked with Robert Parker of Wine Advocate. The countryside is spectacular...you are going to have soooo much fun! Enjoy!
